Melbourne: Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced she is making a three-day visit to India next week.
In New Delhi, Ms Gillard will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and senior ministers to discuss ways to further expand and deepen bilateral and regional cooperation, boost our trade and investment ties, and strengthen our political and strategic dialogue. She will also call on President Mukerjee and meet with Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi.
Ms Gillard will meet with members of the Australia India CEOs Forum, address a lunch hosted by the three business chambers and have the opportunity to see first-hand the results of Australia-India collaboration on community and science and research projects.
Ms Gillard will also launch an Australian cultural festival called “Ozfest”. It will run until February and include more than 100 events in 18 Indian cities.
The visit will be Ms Gillard’s first as prime minister, although she spent time in India as deputy prime minister in 2009.
