Labor MP visits assaulted Indian student, no more in induced coma

Melbourne, 5 May: The Shadow Treasurer, Shadow Minister for Employment and State Member for Tarneit, Mr. Tim Pallas, MP today visited the 20-yer-old Indian overseas student Manrajwinder Singh, who is in Alferd Hospital after being badly injured in an attack by a group of nine people (8 men and one woman) at Birrarung Marr, St. Kilda Road at about 4 am on 30th Dec night.

Manrajwinder Singh has shown slight improvement in his condition and no more in ‘induced coma’, but his condition remains ‘critical’, medical staff present told SAT.

Mr. Tim Pallas, MP spent some time with Manrajwinder in the presence of his brother Yadwinder Singh and enquired about his health and the progress of his recovery from doctors and medical staff. “Manrajwinder was responding to his brother and moving”, said Mr. Tim Pallas.

A moved Mr.Tim Pallas told SAT that the assault on him looks an ethnic biased attack and the Labor Party will try to raise the issue in the Victorian Parliament whenever it meets.
“We want him to recover fast”, he said.

Others present and those who met the assaulted student included Mr. Tim Singh, Councillor Darebin and Mr. Jaswinder Singh.

Meanwhile, Yadwinder Singh talking to SAT refuted a report in the Sun-Herald that quotes the FIAV President Mr. Vasan Srinivasan that “Mr. Singh’s School, Cambridge College, had provided assistance” to the assaulted student.
