Julian Hill slams Libs & Greens at new multicultural org’s launch

MELBOURNE, 13 October, 2024: Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Julian Hill today took a dig at the Libs and Greens for their policies, during the launch of Australia Multicultural Organisation Network (AMON), a new multicultural body promoted by former Labour candidate in Menzies and Forest Hill, Manoj Kumar and activists from different communities.

Mr. Hill while addressing the gathering slammed Leader of Opposition, Peter Dutton  for what was said about the African gangs and that Lebanese should not have come to Australia. He also critiqued the  Greens for their extreme policies. Praising Australia’s multicultural policies, Julian Hill said, our Fair Go policy is a reflection of our successful multicultural ethos. And, this is a deliberate policy and what political leaders say matters, he said.

Julian Hill also highlighted the importance of the Racial Discrimination Act, passed by the Whitlam Government, whose 50th anniversary will be celebrated next year.

Others who addressed the gathering included Anne Marie, representing John Pesutto, Leader of opposition in Victoria, Bwe Thay, Deputy Chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, and Casandra Fernando, Federal MP (via Video).

Manoj Kumar, Chairman AMON in his address gave examples of the type of issues AMON could address, including the recent Uber drivers agitation, lack of women in jobs and mental health issues, business related needs and problems of private colleges.

Sunny Duggal acknowledged community, faith, political leaders and activists who were present and appreciated their presence and support for the new organisation.

Those assembled from different cultural and faith organisations also heard Dr. Raju Adhakari, detailing with the help of a power point presentation the aim behind AMON to coordinate numerous multicultural bodies and take up their issues unitedly before Federal and State governments.

President AMON, Raju Adhikari said, “Amon declaration highlighted unity in diversity is a fundamental asset and CALD is a path maker to shape a “Harmonious Australia. AMON will organise first CALD convention in 2025 for broader consultation with a wide array of stakeholders for a long-term strategy,  road map and action plan.”

Rahul Singh, in his speech, disclosed the plan to setup an AMON Business Council, with a mission of business, culture and values. “Our vision is to foster collaboration with immigrant businesses, community groups, and political leaders, he said.

The Sunday evening program also saw a lively traditional Afghan men’s dance, joined by people from other communities and wrapped up with an Indian dinner.
