Buddha’s Day urge for world peace

MELBOURNE, 3 May 2024: The Federation Square the heart of Melbourne’s cultural and multicultural festivities, was today evening lighted up with celebrations of Buddha’s birthday and multicultural festival with thousands thronging the iconic place with families.

The festive atmosphere laced with a spiritual touch defined the evening’s ambience. A big golden statue of Buddha decorated all around was the centre of attraction. Massively big lighted flower replicas in many colours dotted the decorated the Federation Square.

The big stage saw the pious ceremony of VIP’s bathing the Buddha statue and addressing the gathering with a messages of joy and world peace. The beautiful electronic multimedia changing colours background lit up the stage as the celebrations progressed. The national anthem of Australia, Buddhist anthem and prayers by monks set the tone for a message of happiness.

The highlight of the evening was the spectacular fireworks display. The city sky was lighted up in different directions with colourful fireworks messaging the message of peace and harmony in a conflict ridden world.

The celebrations attended by people of different communities and faiths was a fitting example of multicultural Victoria and Australia.

The festival was organised by the Buddhist Light International Association (BLIA) and Fo Guang Shan.
