MELBOURNE, 13 December, 2025: After having a hurricane Diwali season, with numerous celebrations spread across different suburbs, this was my first Christmas party (or, function) but with a difference. A celebration of Christ’s birthday called ‘Multicultural Christmas @ZCK’, in South Clayton.

It goes to the credit of the organisers, Zee Cheng Khor Moral Uplifting Society, to usher in the festive spirit , 12 days ahead of Christmas. Others supporting the lively event included the Aumsai Sansthan Temple,  and the Indonesian Club Melbourne, among others.

There were people of all faiths and the dinner a potpourri of Chinese, Indonesian and Indian delicacies. The cultural program had diverse dances, with a Santa distributing gifts to children.

The holding of lighted candles with a carol, was a defining interfaith  moment of the function. Rev Ian Ferguson delivered the Christmas message and prayer. and many faith leaders addressed the gathering. A $ 500 cheque was given for the flood victims in Sri Lanka.

Lee Termalis MP, South Eastern Metropolitan, addressing the gathering expressed joy at the presence of diverse communities, which he said, was a reflection of similarities we have despite different faiths and cultures.
