MELBOURNE, 7 March, 2025: The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), is gearing up for the ‘Cultural Diversity Week’ being observed across Victoria from 17-23 March. This was evident today as the top VMC brass, Victoria’s Multicultural Minister, Ingrid Stitt MP, and prominent personalities from all walks of life gathered at the Grazeland, Melbourne – food and entertainment playground, for a official media launch of the week-long cultural extravaganza.
The diverse and multicultural gathering at the Grazeland, with the live traffic moving West Gate Bridge gave an fascinating backdrop to the media launch. In fact, it was much more fun as the program moved on. Minister Ingrid Stitt, VMC Chairperson Vivienne Nguyen, VMC Director, Strategy and Operations, Kashif Bouns (MC) and Grazeland owner John Forman addressed the distinguished guests, many in colorful ethnic attire.
A beautiful Nepalese dance, a Chin State (Myanmar) bamboo dance and Latino music entertained the guests. A panel discussion on hosted by Kashif Bouns saw panelists Sharon Johal, Akee Makur Chuot and Mathew Stokes talk about their experiences in multicultural Victoria. Food tasting (almost lunch) cared for the taste buds of guests. Minister Ingrid Still had an experience in the kitchen of The Colombo, tasting Sri Lankan street food. Lebanese seafood, flying noodles, and Turkish food also made the rounds.
The ‘Cultural Diversity Week’ will take place from 17 to 23 Match, 2025, and celebrate the power, influence, and stories of Victoria’s rich multicultural communities, and all Victorians are invited to participate through a variety of in-person events and activities. The theme is – Embrace The Journey Shape Our Future.
The week will feature vibrant events, community-led activities, and educational initiatives that foster understanding, inclusion, and respect across the state. By participating, stakeholders like you can help bring to life the vision of a more connected and cohesive society, while celebrating the cultural wealth that makes Victoria unique.
