MELBOURNE, 5 March, 2026: Women from multicultural communities today pledged to continue working on issues related to domestic violence, at a well-attended  seminar – Balance The Scales: Multicultural Voices for Justice, at the Victorian Parliament. The true believers assembled to once more pledge keep working in difficult family situations. The Multicultural Women’s Alliance (MWA) is determined to plug the rather tough issue of domestic violence, was evident in presentations by various speakers.

The event aligned itself for the endeavour with the UN Women Australia 2026, for inclusive justice, improvement of safety in the system,  dignity, and fairness. What practical actions are needed by different stakeholders. The MWA pushed for practical solutions within the framework of law.

The panel discussion consisting of Julie Ken (Disability Ken), Sonali Deshpande (Victoria Police), and Councillor Gladys Liu, City of Melbourne. Sonali, who combines public health and safety, said it was essential to work within the parameters of law and police work for community safety was  essentially embedded in that direction. The barriers that stop domestic violence violence were many and for that trust building was essential, she said.

The other speakers Anasina Gray- Barberio and Dr. Vinay Rane appreciated the work of the MWA and explained different issues at the ground level.
