MELBOURNE, 14 April 2024: The ‘Sant Guru Ravidas Sabha’ today celebrated Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s 133rd birthday at the Guru Ravidass Temple,  Campbellfield with fanfare and dedication.

A few thousand devotees and supporters thronged the temple premises and participated in the function. A massive pandal accommodated those present and the stage in front was decorated with pictures of Sant Guru Ravidass and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

The massive temple premises with many sections including the Gurudwara, the kitchen and the ‘langar’ area had people all around. The afternoon started with Bhog at Shri Sukhmani Sahib, followed by ‘Kirtan Diwan’. With apt attention the gathering heard the ‘kirtan’ (devotional songs) and speeches on the need and virtues of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, who they said, showed the path to fight against caste inequality. The need to unite, educate and struggle was emphasised.

Famous and popular Punjabi singer Parveen Bharta sang for the audience with her devotional and sufi songs. This was followed by traditional ‘langar’ (community feasting), where people sat together to have food creating an ambience of human unity.
