MELBOURNE, 15 March 2026: The message that on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, and every day, the Allan Labor Government stands with Victoria’s Muslim community was today given today. The move comes following recent appalling anti-Muslim incidents, and the importance to stand together on the issue.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt today launched the ‘Combatting Islamophobia Resources’ (CIR),developed in partnership with Victoria’s Muslim communities, the series of guides outline the unacceptable levels and forms of Islamophobia and will help equip Victorians with the tools to recognise and call out hate.
The CIR includes methods how to intervene, offer support to victims and when to make a report.
In a media statement the Minister said, “We know there’s more to do and we will not rest until every Victorian feels safe to be who they are. That’s why important work is underway to make sure these guides reach every corner of Victoria.”
“We are also working hand-in-hand with Muslim community leaders and organisations to tackle Islamophobia in Victorian schools. We’ll work with groups like the Islamic Museum of Australia, the Islamic Council of Victoria and the Board of Imams to help bring that understanding into our classrooms. Labor has also delivered the nation’s strongest anti-vilification laws, and we are the first jurisdiction in Australia to deliver an Anti-Racism Strategy, she said.
“Victoria’s multiculturalism is one of our greatest strengths – and it’s everyone’s responsibility to protect it’ As many Victorians continue to observe the holy month of Ramadan, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a safer and more secure Victoria for everyone.”
