MELBOURNE, 4 January 2022: A ‘Gandhi Memorial Week’ will be by the end of this month here. Organized by the Australia India Community Charitable Trust (AICCT), Indian Consulate, Melbourne, the Federation of Indian Associations of Victoria (FIAV) & the Australia India Business Council.

The event will take place at the Indian Community Centre (ICC), Rowville with week-long programs. According to Mr. Vasan Srinivasan, Patron AIBC & member AMC, ” the program is likely to have a memorial lecture each day of the week, documentaries on Gandhi will be shown, school kids and community groups will be invited for a visit to the Museum India at the ICC among other events.”

A sub-committee of around 10 people led by Dr. Santosh Kumar, a trustee of the AICCT, will decide the events for the week and make suggestions for their success.

The ‘Gandhi Memorial Week’ was to be held last year in October but was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. A Gandhi statue was also recently inaugurated at the center by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
