MELBOURNE, June 8, 2024: Minister for Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio today emphasised for collective community steps to tackle environment challenges. She was addressing community leaders and activists gathering to mark the World Environment Day, at the Officer Sikh Temple.
Lily explained the signs of a warming planet, frequent floods, storms, asthma, and so on. Her emphasis was we all can together and the state government is taking concrete steps to de-carbonise.
Victoria in 2024, she said, was using 11% renewal energy. And, by 2045, it is likely to be 95%, she said. She emphasised this would be a step towards sustainable security.
Sheena Watt, Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Action, gave a detailed map of Victoria’s rebates for energy services, energy products, heating and cooling appliances, hot water systems, and many others. “The average household can save between upto $1,100 a year on energy costs depending on the upgrade, she disclosed.
Others present at the function were Emma Vulin- State Member for Pakenham, Belinda Wilson- State Member for Narre Warren North, Gary Mass- State Member for Narre Warren South, Jack Kowarzik- Mayor Cardinia Shire Council, and Lana Formoso- Mayor Greater Dandenong Council among others.
Earlier, Harpreet Kandra, through a powerpoint presentation informed about the environment actions being taken by the Officer Sikh Temple.
Those present then proceeded to the Sikh Temple’s green area and did tree plantation to mark the World Environment Day. This was followed by the traditional vegetarian ‘langar’ (community food eating).
