MELBOURNE, 8 May 2022: There are massive Indian programs planned during the ‘Indian Utsav Community Day’ on Sunday 22 May 2022, organized by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), city. It’s an art and cultural bonanza laced with all that one can expect at an Indian festival – art, dance, food and music plus many activities for kids.
One can explore the latest free exhibition ‘Transforming Worlds: Change and Tradition in Contemporary India’ showcasing the unique artistic traditions developed by diverse indigenous and regional communities across India.
DROP-BY ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS
Kids and families are invited to get creative with a free drawing activity from 10am – 3pm in the Great Hall inspired by works in Transforming Worlds: Change and Tradition in Contemporary India.
BOLLYWOOD PERFORMANCE AND WORKSHOP
Learn the art of Bollywood dancing with NB Dance Group led by Natasha Baweja with performances and workshops in the Great Hall at 11am and 2pm.
DJS IN THE GREAT HALL
Grab a drink, a bite to eat and enjoy live DJ sets from DJ Priyanka PSG at 11.45am and 1.15pm in the Great Hall.
BHANGRA PERFORMANCE AND WORKSHOP
Join Bhangranation at 12.30pm in the Great Hall for a performance and workshop of Bhangra dance.
INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC WITH JAY DAGBAR AND SAIKAT BHATTACHARYA
Enjoy the sounds of the tabla and sitar in this performance of Indian classical music from Jay Dagbar and Saikat Bhattacharya at 1pm in the Transforming Worlds exhibition space, Level 1.
GUIDED TOURS
Join guided tours of Transforming Worlds: Change and Tradition in Contemporary India in Auslan at 11.30am and in English at 12.30pm.
FOOD AND DRINK
Enjoy a special menu created for NGV Indian Utsav Community Day. Indulge in vegetable samosas, cauliflower pakoras, Vada Pav and Kathi wraps paired with Masala Chai and Mango Lassi.
