Penny Wong announces $ 4m for St Thomas’ Syro Malabar Parish cultural centre

MELBOURNE, 20 April 2025 : Minister for Foreign Affairs and Senator for South Australia, Penny Wong today announced $ 4 million grant to construct the cultural centre of the St Thomas’ Syro Malabar Parish Melbourne South East (Dandenong), if elected. The announcement was made addressing the gathering at the church on the occasion of Easter.

Others present on the occasion were Julian Hill MP, Assistant Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs; and Hon. Mark Dreyfus MP, Attorney-General and Cabinet Secretary.

In a Facebook post Mark Dreyfus MP said, ” It was wonderful to have Penny Wong, Senator for SA, join us for the St Thomas Syro-Malabar Easter mass in Dandenong.
The funding is for a multicultural space celebrating South Indian heritage, serving youth, seniors, and the wider community. Thank you to Father Francis, Father Jinu, and the whole community for the very warm welcome – I can’t wait to see the new centre in action.”

The parish congratulates and acknowledged the outstanding achievements of students who were honoured by the political guests.
