UPAA celebrates Diwali with gaiety & fervour

MELBOURNE, 31 October 2022: Diwali 2022 celebrations here are continuing and it seems many more events coming. Today it was at the Australian Indian Community Centre (AICC), where members and supporters of the Uttar Pradesh Association of Australia (UPAA) gathered for a lively Diwali celebration.

The program kicked off with religious rituals, followed by an inspiring speech by Dr. Sushil Kumar, Indian Consul General in Melbourne. Dr. Santosh Yadav, President of UPAA in his address disclosed the rising strength of the UPAA, which he disclosed, now is constituted of around 200 families from Uttar Pradesh (UP). He emphasized the importance of celebrating cultural events with community participation. The dhol and its sound reverberated in the hall as Dr. Sushil Kumar joined in a free for all session.

The gathering was also addressed by Dr. Tien Kieu MP, Labor, representing the Victorian Premier and the Multicultural Minister. While congratulating the UPAA for the Diwali celebration, he talked about his recent visit to Telangana, India. Dr.Suresh Bhargawa, RMIT, addressing the gathering disclosed his nostalgic memories of his early years in Melbourne and the setting up of Indian organizations. A beautiful Indian classical dance was the highlight of the event.

Bollywood songs sung by Atul Fotedar and other cultural items added to the strength of the celebrations. Mannie Kaur Verma, Labor candidate for Rowville, was introduced to the gathering and later she addressed those present detailing her profile and proposed work she intends to do. Community members networked a lot and a tasty Indian lunch added to the Diwali festivities.
