MELBOURNE, 12 January 2022: The Andrews Labor Government has announced the plan to have a specialist Indian aged care facility in Cranbourne, a Labor-held seat in the state parliament. The new multi-million-dollar aged care facility will be situated on a parcel of land at Mayfield Road in Cranbourne East. The area has a large India-born population falling under the Casey Council.

The current member for Cranbourne is Labor’s Pauline Richards and the seat was earlier held by Labor’s Sri Lankan origin member Jude Perera.

Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Anthony Carbines says, “We know it’s hugely important for people to remain connected to their culture as they get older – and we’ve delivered on our election commitment to secure a site to help make this residential aged care facility possible.

The land purchase will make a difference to the Indian community, with a new aged care facility that offers bilingual and cross-culturally trained staff, traditional food options, and spaces for religious and cultural activities.”

A media release says, ” With easy access by car and public transport the Mayfield site offers a host of benefits, including nearby parks and shopping with close access to health services such as Casey Hospital.

An EOI process will commence this year, seeking the best organisation to construct the facility and deliver services.

Pauline Richards says, “Close to parks, public transport, shopping and health services – this is the perfect location for a new aged care facility to support the older Indian members of our local community – and to help them feel at home.”
