MELBOURNE, 14 February 2022: Gulzar (Sampooran Singh Kalra) is more known for his lyrics, popular gazals, and the direction of Hindi movies. In fact, it is much more and Shailaja Chandra, Sydney-based corporate leader turned writer gives us a glimpse of how Gulzar “awakens us to the majesty of the mundane that we commonly neglect.” The 151 pages book ‘The Moonsmith Gulzar’ is available on amazon.com.au. It can be ordered via all Amazon platforms across the world.

The Moonsmith Gulzar revolves around Gulzar’s writings on some of the most significant themes of existence. It’s a tribute to the way he writes about the intricacies of inner lives, the inextricable connection with nature, and the obscure dimensions of our existence.

Gulzar says, “I have passed through this surgery a number of times. Mostly it has been skin-deep only. This is the first time it’s an open-heart surgery – and Shailja is the Surgeon. She has touched deep down at the core of my poems. Most books about my works have not gone beyond the film lyrics or some popular ghazals – considering the popular choice of the people. But Shailja has gone beyond that and touched the soul. That’s why I wrote to her once, “Your work is the best work on my works, so far!” I still stand by that statement.”

Shailja Chandra’s book was launched on 19th December 2021 in Sydney by Mrs. Nimeesha Gupta (the wife of the Consul General of India in Sydney). A selection of literature lovers and members of the local media attended the launch. The launch was conducted by Manbir Singh, popular host of the Kathe Sunte Radio program.

Here are some excerpts courtesy nationalheralindia.com from The Moonsmith Gulzar:

Khalil Gibran said: “Every beauty and greatness in this world is created by a single thought or emotion inside a man.”Gulzar’s work on the soil, society and our moral, environmental, ethical recklessness is a treasure trove of such potent, poignant ‘single thoughts and emotions.’ Words that convey intense, personal moments of belongingness — not impersonal social activism:

MoD pe dekhaa hai wo buDhaa sa aik peD kabhii

Meraa waaqif hai, bahot saalo’n se mai’n use jaantaa hoo’n…

…Subah se kaat rahe’n hai’n committee wale

MoD tak jaane kii himmat nahi’n hoti mujhko

“I am passionate about inspiring, encouraging and empowering people in this pursuit through my podcast stories, writings and narratives, says Shailja Chandra. No doubt, ‘The Moonmith Gulzar’ is one of them.
