A Night of Knowing Nothing (Preview) – Indian youth on the shores of love, art, politics

By SAT News Desk

MELBOURNE, 8 January 2022: ‘A Night of Knowing Nothing’, winner of the best documentary award at Cannes 2021 – is an inventive and deeply felt portrait of contemporary Indian youth on the shores of love, art, politics. Structured around letters from an unseen university student, L, to her estranged lover, K, Payal Kapadia’s hybrid film is at once grand and contained.

In 96 minutes it weaves fragments of a romance and moments of domestic life with handheld documentary footage captured around the country over several years. Merging reality with fiction, dreams, memories, fantasies, and anxieties, Kapadia creates a bold cinematic work that celebrates the ways in which our lives and loves forever intertwine with political insistence on a new world order.

Director – Payal Kapadia; Producers- Thomas Hakim, Julian GRaff, and Ranbir Das.
This documentary can be seen on February 5 and 13 2022 at the Antenna Documentary Film Festival (2-13 February 2022, Sydney).
