Aamir Khan set to shine at IFFM 2025: A moment of pride

Aamir Khan, the Indian Hindi cinema’s ‘Mr Perfectionist’ will be the chief guest at the Indian Film Festival pof Melbourne, 2025, 14-24 August, 2025. His being at the festival will be a milestone for the festival ready to host it’s 16th edition. A TIME100 honouree, Khan is renowned for blending box office success with deeply human storytelling.

Khan’s influence extends beyond cinema. His pioneering television series Satyamev Jayate tackled taboo social issues and inspired policy reform, reaching over a billion people worldwide. He is also the co-founder of Paani Foundation, a non-profit focused on drought prevention and climate resilience in India. Aamir Khan’s body of work continues to challenge convention, spark conversation, and inspire audiences around the world, with films that are as entertaining as they are transformative.

His IFFM 2025 presence, no doubt, will be a proud moment for Melbourne, Victoria and Australia. His new film Sitaare Zameen Par after a three years hiatus, a remake of the 2018 Spanish film Campeones, will have a retrospective of his films, with a special spotlight on Sitaare Zameen Par.

Aamir Khan (born March 14, 1965, in Mumbai, India) is widely recognized for his versatility and commitment to his craft. Khan is celebrated for his meticulous approach to roles and his willingness to tackle diverse genres and socially relevant themes.

Khan began his career as a child actor in the film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973), directed by his uncle Nasir Hussain. His breakthrough as a leading man came with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which made him an overnight sensation and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Throughout the 1990s, he established himself as a leading actor with a series of commercial and critical successes, including Dil (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), Raja Hindustani (1996), and Sarfarosh (1999).

Khan’s career is marked by his ability to reinvent himself and take on unconventional roles. Notable films from the 2000s and beyond include:

  • Lagaan (2001): Produced and starred in this epic, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

  • Dil Chahta Hai (2001): A trendsetting urban drama,

  • Rang De Basanti (2006): A patriotic drama that resonated with youth audiences.

  • Taare Zameen Par (2007): Khan’s directorial debut, focusing on childhood learning disabilities.

  • Ghajini (2008), 3 Idiots (2009), PK (2014), and Dangal (2016): Each film became the highest-grossing Indian film at the time of its release and addressed significant social issues.

Khan is also known for his work as a producer and director, founding Aamir Khan Productions in 1999. His films often blend mainstream entertainment with strong social messages, contributing to public discourse on topics like education, gender equality, and social justice.
