Janaawar – The Beast Within, Zee5 Global’s six episodes (around two hours) series deals with the town of Chhand, where Hemant Kumar (Bhuvan Arora), a sincere cop, is drawn into a chilling web of crime. A headless corpse, missing gold, and a vanished man make Hemant and his department grapple with unprecedented investigation challenges. There are many buried truths and a shabby police system laced with the pulls and pushes of society.
The first episode starts with the discovery of a rotting corpse in a jungle whose head then vanishes and as the episodes progress, one is exposed to the working of a police force which is entangled in a web of work culture, which is not a surprise. Third degree methods including physical torture to extract a confession, filthy language, high-places pressures, casteism, superstition, and so on are there to see. The police station setting looks realistic, and how law is forced or enforced is laid bare.
Bhuvan Arora says “Janaawar – The Beast Within’ is the kind of story that tests you not just as an actor, but as a human being. Playing Hemant Kumar was emotionally demanding because he carries so many battles like his duty, his identity, his family, and his inner demons. It gives audiences a glimpse of the intensity and scale of the world we’ve built.”
The race to catch the killer (visible but not known) through available investigation methods keeps the cops in a constant maze. The pressure on Hemant is intense, because of the added family responsibilities.
The last episodes start revealing the mystery. Human weaknesses and the revenge syndrome takes shape. This is not a new story. But has been shown in a different setting.
Produced by Aarambh Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and directed by Shachindra Vats, Bhuvan Arora acts well in the lead role and the episodes will premiere on 26th September 2025, exclusively on ZEE5 Global.
Joining him in pivotal roles are Bhagwan Tiwari, Atul Kale, Vaibhav Yashvir, Eshika Dey, Vinod Suryavanshi, Amit Sharma, Badrul Islam, and Deekshha Sonalkar Tham.
I give this series 3 out of 5 stars.
