Aamir Khan: Forrest Gump remake Laal Singh Chaddha is rooted in India

MELBOURNE, 10 August: Aamir Khan was on the ABC Breakfast show today talking to its movie critic Zep Hepburn about his upcoming movie Laal Singh Chaddha answering queries candidly.

Laal Singh Chaddha is the adaptation of the 1994 movie ‘Forrest Gump’ directed by Robert Zemeckis. In the movie, the presidencies of Kennedy and Johnson, the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, and other historical events unfold from the perspective of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75, whose only desire is to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart.

How ‘Forrest Gump, enticed Aamir Khan, he tells ABC, ” I think it was in 1994, and I loved the character, I just loved the film, I got deeply connected to it and thought Tom Hanks has done such a wonderful job.

It’s all innocence despite watching heroes who are strong or heroes who have the moral strength and they fight for the rights of the people, but here is a hero who was just innocent.”

About the challenges of making a new remake of an iconic character and adapting it for a new audience, Aamir says, “I was skeptical, I mean who would do the mad thing of wanting to remake Forrest Gump, so deeply rooted. So, I heard the script, I just fell in love with it.

I think the adaptation is beautiful, the way it is Indian and roots in a small Punjab village with the fields around.”

” Now we are keenly awaiting the reaction of audiences and see how they like it. And hopes it touches people’s hearts the way it is done,” Aamir Khan says.

Laal Singh Chaddha – Hindi (With English Subtitles) starring Aamir Khan, and Kareena Kapoor, is releasing across Australia on 11 August 2022. For all information including the cinema list click – www.mindblowingfilms.com
