MELBOURNE, 23 August, 2024: It was a typical Melbourne rainy day, as I entered the ‘LaDeDa’ (Little Bourke Street) for the IFFM 2024’s BAARI, filled with comedy, entertainment, networking, gossiping, drinking, and snacking. The boys and girls were in strength, busy with selfies and talking.
The comedians made some laugh as more and more joined in. The arty and well decorated ambience at ‘LaDeDa’ having BAARI added to the evening fun, a new IFFM concept. Obviously, movies are not enough. LaDeDa, no doubt, fulfilled the urge for like-minded creatives.
Soon, the highlight of the evening, Vikrant Massey, famous for 12th Fail, Lootera, and Sector 36 (shown at the IFFM2024) among others, was ‘In Conversation’ with Mitu Bhowmick Lange, Festival Director.
He talked about how he fulfilled his dreams, about his world view, his urge to be with the common people, to create content with archival value, Balika Vadhu TV show, and how someone has to do the ground level stories.
Answering to a question by South Asia Times (SAT), Vikrant Massey said, he explained why he wanted to be the voice of the voiceless. (See Video).
The BAARI evening was well received as apart from its announced segments, the power of networking took over with many interesting people around. I made many new friends. Interestingly, some were quite ‘filmy’, while others were just hanging around.
