MELBOURNE, 18 August, 2024: ‘Sona’ in Hindi means Gold. True to this meaning Sona Mohapatra, India’s singer, music composer and lyricist spoke from her heart at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2024, in a panel with Aparna Purohit (Aamir Khan Productions) , Mithila Gupta (Screenwriter), Rima Das (director) and compared by Rajeev Masand (journalist), at the IFFM Chats – Women We Love, at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) here today.
The topic looked simple but generated a powerful streak with four prominent women leading in the cinema and entertainment industry speaking about themselves and their work. In fact, it was much more. But it was Sona Mohapatra who stole the show with her high-octane words, mincing no words about what prevails in reality. Earlier, her mesmerising performance at the IFFM 2024 Awards Night and before that a small piece of patriotic singing at the media conference remain milestones.
Sona Mohapatra, has crystal clear views. She said, people ask me to stick to my work only and move on. I have been made controversial for what I speak up for, not for the work I do. What happened with me. I will not going to get over it and not apologise. I am comfortable being myself, she says. (Watch the video for part of what she said).
