MELBOURNE, 10 December 2021: There is no fixed defination of art. Picasso’s cubism, Husain’s modified cubism and Souza’s expressionism are all art and celebrated by the world. Attempts to explain different forms of art can confuse a layperson. But our artists here are clear and embeded in traditional art forms which are visibally profound.

Diaspora artists Pratibha Madan and Rishu Kapoor’s exhibition of paintings at The Track Gallery, Mt, Waverley is a visual delight. Pratibha’s folk experiments laced with intricate colourful detail emerge as life forms with whom one can connect easily. She migrated to Australia in 2016, where she lives and works with her husband and kids. Her paintings speak for themselves. Her expression of Madhubani, Gond, and Warli styles is a tribute to the power of folk in different art forms.

For past two years, She has been practising various styles of Mithila art under the guidance of master artists from India. She hopes to inspire art enthusiasts by increasing the reach of traditional folk art in the Australian community.

She feels inspired by the cultures of India and Australia. Her rule – “Brush, draw, spray and drip; free flowing expression is the basis of all my creations. There are no rules”, she says.
