MELBOURNE, 23 October 2020: Just saw the opening film of the IFFM-2020 ‘NATKHAT’ directed by Shaan Vyas and also produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Vidya Balan. In a country where domestic violence and rape is a big issue, the film tells us how masculinity takes hold from the family in childhood. The result is obvious what we see in today’s India. Talks at the dinner table and school experience make what we call serious gender issues in adulthood. Vidya tells a story which contrasted with real-life keeps the boy in perpetual excitement. In 33.28 minutes this short film speaks tons about a vibrant social issue. Shall I call it a feminist movie? Or, is it just reality speaking. A good start for the IFFM-2020.
I give it 4 and a half stars out of 5.
