Quantum future – behind the hype?

Quantum technologies promise to revolutionise many critical industries from logistics to medicine. Thanks to that promise, companies and countries are investing big — USD$2.3 billion in 2022, according to a report by global consulting firm McKinsey.

But what’s going on behind the hype? Quantum is still nascent technology, based on the relatively new field of quantum science. While quantum computers will be able to solve some problems much faster than classical computers, they won’t be great for everything.

And the ultimate impact of quantum technologies could be something we haven’t even thought of yet. A future with quantum tech looks exciting but we will need to prepare ourselves for both its promises and risks while managing expectations.
