Dr Sharif N AS-Saber appointed VC of Stamford Univ Bangladesh

Melbourne-based Dr. Sharif N AS-Saber has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Stamford University Bangladesh for a four-year term.
The appointment was made by the President of Bangladesh (who serves as the university’s Chancellor) under Section 31(1) of the Private University Act 2010, following a recommendation from the Board of Trustees Chairman, Professor Dr Farahnaaz Firoz.
He formally assumed office on February 16, 2026, in the presence of the Board of Trustees, deans, department heads, and faculty members.
Dr. AS-Saber is an accomplished academic with extensive international experience. Most recently, he was a faculty member in the Department of Management at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, and served as Vice-Chair of the Middle East Chapter of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) from 2023 to 2025.
His prior leadership roles include several senior positions at RMIT University (Australia), such as Associate Professor, Deputy Head, Associate Dean (Research and Innovation), Acting Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, and Acting Head. There, he established a sustainability-focused Master of International Business program and led a Jean Monnet Sustainable Development Goals Network cluster.He also held key roles at Monash University (Founding Director of the MPhil (Industry) program and Director of the International Business program, plus elected Academic Board member), as well as at the University of Tasmania and Massey University.
His educational background includes a PhD from the University of Tasmania, an MBA from Monash University, and degrees in Law and International Relations from the University of Dhaka. His research focuses on governance, public policy, AI, climate change, ethics, and international business strategy. He has secured grants (including from the Australian Research Council) and supervised doctoral students.
Additionally, he has public sector experience from the Bangladesh Civil Service (including as a local government administrator) and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Fashion Business Journal, where he has advanced research-driven dialogue in the textiles, apparel, and fashion sectors.His appointment is viewed as a significant step in strengthening Stamford University Bangladesh’s focus on academic excellence, responsible leadership, and global engagement.
