MELBOURNE, 17 March 2020: The Indian film industry productions will come to a halt from March 19-31 because of the coronavirus crisis. A statement in a CNN story from Kulmeet Makkar, CEO of the Producers Guild of India says, ” “The health and safety of our colleagues come first, hence we completely support the industry’s united decision to suspend productions”.

“In the coming days, we will discuss details with our members on the modalities of postponing our production plans, keeping in mind the ongoing threat of Covid-19. We will continue to monitor the situation and take further decisions accordingly,” the statement says.

The Indian film industry is the biggest in the world with about 2,000 productions in 20 languages annually. Many important releases have already been stopped.
