NEW DELHI, 20 July, 2026: Amid talks with BJP President J.P. Nadda, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests at Jantar Mantar entered their fifth week.Regarding the meeting, Saurav Das posted on ‘X’, “After waiting for more than 2 hours, Ashutosh Ranka and I just met J.P. Nadda ji at his residence for 10 minutes. While we submitted a written letter with our demands, he has assured us that he will speak internally. We are in that process. There is news of mass detention, etc.”
Reports indicate the protesters main demand for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation is the main sticking point with the government.
Earlier, police resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse thousands of protesters attempting to march toward Parliament House. A big section almost reached the Parliament, reports say. The demonstration, which began at Jantar Mantar, led to the deployment of security personnel in large numbers.
Since 6 June 2026, hundreds of youth led by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke have held an indefinite sit-in demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak and CBSE marking irregularities. Left-wing student groups SFI, AISA and AISF have joined.
On 28 June, activist Sonam Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike, drawing bigger crowds. He was on 19 July 2026, taken away by police and admitted to a hospital.
Protesters are also raising concerns over exam transparency, rising education costs and student mental health. The protest remains peaceful with no resolution yet.
Update from ANI, July 21, 2026, 02:14 (GMT+10): Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk continues to receive medical treatment at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors say his condition remains stable. According to the health bulletin released on Monday, his vital parameters are within a stable range.
The bulletin said that while his blood sugar levels remain on the lower side, other blood parameters have shown improvement following oral rehydration therapy (ORS) and potassium syrup supplementation. A multidisciplinary team of specialists from the hospital and AIIMS New Delhi is closely monitoring his health. Doctors said continued clinical observation is necessary to support his recovery from mild to moderate dehydration and to detect any potential complications at an early stage.
