Technology is not agnostic: Dr.S.Jaishankar at the Global Tech Summit

Dr. S. Jaishankar, India’s MEA spoke on Day 1 of the Global Tech Summit (29 Nov. to 1 Dec 2022) organised by Carnegie India. He discussed (See video above) ‘Geodigital’ & its effects with Mohan C. Raja.

Dr. S. Jaishankar’s six points:

  1. Technology is not agnostic. Our choices have strategic implications.
  2. The broader context of globalization is about the economy, technology and mobility. The real debate today is between collaborative globalization and one dominated by a few.
  3. Westphalian model of international relations is not the final word. With technological interpretations, trust and transparency are key.
  4. The Nagoya model of supply chain cooperation is also under challenge. In the era of Covid, conflict and climate change, resilience and reliability are essential.
  5. In a world of civil-military fusion, the definition of strategic technologies has changed. Building deep strengths alone will drive rebalancing.
  6. Geopolitics ultimately comes down to partners and choices. For India, who gives access; who provides markets and who collaborates are the key criteria.
