Dr. S. Jaishankar, India’s MEA spoke on Day 1 of the Global Tech Summit (29 Nov. to 1 Dec 2022) organised by Carnegie India. He discussed (See video above) ‘Geodigital’ & its effects with Mohan C. Raja.
Dr. S. Jaishankar’s six points:
- Technology is not agnostic. Our choices have strategic implications.
- The broader context of globalization is about the economy, technology and mobility. The real debate today is between collaborative globalization and one dominated by a few.
- Westphalian model of international relations is not the final word. With technological interpretations, trust and transparency are key.
- The Nagoya model of supply chain cooperation is also under challenge. In the era of Covid, conflict and climate change, resilience and reliability are essential.
- In a world of civil-military fusion, the definition of strategic technologies has changed. Building deep strengths alone will drive rebalancing.
- Geopolitics ultimately comes down to partners and choices. For India, who gives access; who provides markets and who collaborates are the key criteria.
