New Delhi, March 22, 2022: India’s Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Yi, during his visit to India. The two leaders had three-hour-long talks. The Chinese Foreign Minister also met the national security adviser, Ajit Doval. Dr. Jaishankar later in a media briefing explained the ‘disengagement process’ on the Sino-Indian border and the talks held so far. He described the situation with China as a ‘Work in progress’ which was ‘slower in pace than desirable’.
This was the Chinese Foreign Minister’s first visit to India after the Russia-Ukraine conflict, where the two countries have not condemned the Russian ‘invasion’ of Ukraine. Yang Yi said, “… the two sides should place the border issue in a proper position in bilateral relations and manage conflicts to facilitate the development of relations.
Wang proposed a three-point approach to achieving that end – both sides should view bilateral relations with a long-term vision, see each other’s development with a win-win mentality, and take part in the multilateral process with a cooperative posture., ” reports Global Times.
China is India’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade expanding exponentially since the turn of the century to $95bn in 2021-22.
