MELBOURNE, 14 August 2024: Pakistan’s iconic Cricketer Wasmin Akram today called upon sports bodies in the country to help youngsters to gear them towards sports. Our youth have talent but get less opportunities and now is the opportune moment to do this, he said.
These views came out when media-persons asked him to comment on Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, winning the Gold medal in Javelin at the just concluded Paris Olympic Games. Wasim was speaking to media-persons during Pakistan’s Independence-Day function at the Pakistan Consulate here.
We are proud of Arshad Madeem and so is the world, he said. Sports facilities to youngsters should have come 20 years back. They should come together and encourage the youth and see how resources can be arranged for sports and how the government can help in that, he said.
“Arshad Madeem’s Gold medal has given hope to Pakistan that youngsters can be nurtured towards sports, ” he said.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Independence-day was celebrated at the Consulate with a documentary shown, speeches, poetry and shorts stage shows. The Pakistani Diaspora was present in large numbers.
Cricket Australia brought in the ODI WC Trophy and displayed it to the gathering. Later cricket fans took photos with the trophy.
The report will be updated.
