SYDNEY, 5 December 2022: Belinda Clark, legendary women’s cricketer, winner of World Cup and former Aussie skipper was today immortalised in a Bronze statue at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). “The sculpture encapsulates being able to have a go – to be courageous, to take on those challenges and break convention, Belinda Clark said.
Australia has 73 known statues and sculptures of cricketers and all are male. Belinda Clark’s statue unveiling at the SCG is the first ever women’s cricketers statue in Australia, breaking the gender imbalance in such statues. The sculpture was created by renowned NSW artist, Cathy Weiszmann.
