MELBOURNE, 30 December 2024: Australia today won the Boxing Day Test, by 148 runs, with Pat Cummins named as the Man of the Match. Commenting at the sensational match, Pat Cummins said, ‘The best Test match I’ve been involved in’, quotes Fox Cricket. Jaiswal’s controversial dismissal by the third empire remained a talking point and many a fans not able to digest it and calling it “cheating”.

Seven’s Simon Taufel on Jaiswal’s dismissal  said, “In my view the decision was out. The third umpire did make the correct decision in the end. With the technology protocols, we do have a hierarchy of redundancy and when the umpire sees a clear deflection off the bat there is no need to go any further and use any other form of technology to prove the case. The clear deflection is conclusive evidence. In this particular case what we have seen from the third umpire, is they’ve used a secondary form of technology, which for whatever reason hasn’t shown the same conclusive evidence of audio to back up the clear deflection. In the end the third umpire did the right thing and went back to the clear deflection and overturned the umpire field. So, in my view correct decision made.”

And, Seven’s Sunil Gavaskar said, ” If the evidence of the technology is not to be taken, why have it at all? That is something that would definitely be the query as far as the Indians are concerned.”

Ricky Ponting (Seven) said, “They make of it what they like. It clearly hit the glove. And I caught it at the time, Jaiswal actually started to walk. As soon as the Aussies went upstairs he started to take a couple of steps away. Snicko hasn’t proven it to be correct, but the umpire picked up the deflection and froze it where the ball was on the end of the glove. As far as I’m concerned, there is no argument whatsoever.”

Cricket’s biggest festive season ever saw records tumble, with the NRMA Insurance Boxing Day Test at the MCG making history with the largest attendance for a Test match played in Australia. The total attendance of 373,691 surpassed the previous mark of 350,534 from 1937, where fans saw Don Bradman’s Australia defeat England in a six-day Test.

Cricket Australia’s digital platforms also had a record 3.2m sessions across cricket.com.au and the CA Live app yesterday (Day 4 of the Test) and had 402 million video views on social media channels across the first four days of the Test.

The series now heads to the deciding Test in Sydney with Australia holding a 2-1 lead. All public tickets for the first three days at the SCG are currently exhausted but fans are encouraged to secure their seats for day four as soon as possible via cricket.com.au/tickets

Boxing Day was the most attended day of cricket in Australia ever with 152,375 across the Test match and Big Bash fixtures.

Boxing Day saw over 1.2 million tune in to the Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars match, making it the most-watched home-and-away game since BBL|07. After 15 matches, BBL ratings have risen 15% year-on-year.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said: “We knew there would be enormous interest in the NRMA Insurance Border Gavaskar Trophy series, but the record attendances and huge viewing figures have exceeded all expectations.

“To smash the record for greatest total attendance at any Test match played in Australia is a colossal achievement for everyone involved and the festive atmosphere at the MCG was an unforgettable experience.

“Not only has this series demonstrated Australia’s enduring love for our national sport, it has shown the game’s wonderful ability to bring people together.
