Khalsa Lions launch fundraising campaign 2024

MELBOURNE, 20 February 2024: Khalsa Lions, a club to promote community sports, have setup a fundraising net page to request voluntary donations to help sustain efforts in making soccer inclusive and accessible for everyone.

The club says, ” Your contribution will directly support our programs, ensuring that they remain free of charge and accessible to all members of the community. Together, we can continue to foster a love for soccer and promote community engagement among individuals of all backgrounds.”

A donation can be made by going to the website. Or, the club office bearers can be contacted for the same. The donation is tax deductible.

Khalsa Lions was established in June 2008.  It started with one senior team playing in the inaugural Victorian Punjabi Federation League and a handful of starting members.

Since then, it has grown immensely in size.  It now boasts over 120 participants ranging from senior teams (2 x men and 1 x women); junior teams accommodating ages from Under 8s right through to Under 15s.  We also have a Veterans team for the elder statesmen.

The club now has over 300 members and counting.

The club has also co-hosted the 2013 and 2019 National Sikh Games to great success.  Khalsa Lions has supported ANSSACC for many years and has club members who are part of the National Committee.

Khalsa Lions also hosts the annual VPF Invitational Cup, which is second only to the Sikh Games when it comes to Punjabi/Sikh soccer tournaments in Australia.  The tournament first commenced back in 2008 as a local league for Punjabi/Sikh teams and has since grown into one of the most prestigious Punjabi/Sikh football tournaments in Australia.

It also participates in both the Winter Football Leagues and Summer Football Leagues; and has 2 senior teams entered in both competitions so we can enjoy football all year around.

The club is proud of the fact that they compete in all major Sikh/Punjabi tournaments throughout the year, as it allows us the opportunity to remain involved in our community and support its growth.

Currently, the club is based in Doncaster East, which allows ease of access for everyone in Melbourne.

Since 2008, the club has won over 20 major trophies (Seniors and Reserves) and over 25 major junior trophies.  The club has achieved so much in such a short time because of their dedication and passion for football. It is undoubtedly one of the strongest football clubs in Australia presently.
