IFFM-2022 tsunami to hit Melb. with 100 movies in 25 languages

MELBOURNE, 19 July 2022: The 13th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2022, is all set to cheer movie buffs from 12-20 July in theaters here and August 13-30 online Australiawide. The iconic celebration of Indian and South Asian cinema will screen over 100 films in 25 languages encompassing different subjects including gender identity, faith, caste, and poverty.

The festival program launched at the Indian Consulate, Melbourne today revealed an array of film industry names from across India including Samantha Prabhu, Tamanna Bhatia, Abhishek Bachchan, Simi, Kabir Khan, and cricketer Kapil Dev among others. Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange could not hide her excitement at the movies being screened here on the big screen, and online across Australia.

Director Anurag Kashyap, who will be at the festival says, “Excited to be showcasing our film and being elected as the opening night film for the IFFM 2022. Dobara is a special film for me as a filmmaker and I’m looking forward to showcasing it on this platform.”

As ever, IFFM will continue to showcase the best of cinema from this enormous industry that encompasses not only Bollywood, but a mosaic of different regions, tastes, and cultures. The festival will also continue to provide a platform to upcoming film makers through its Short Film Competition, as well as bring all the glamour and excitement of Indian cinema’s most talked about talent to Melbourne at its red-carpet event, the IFFM Awards night.

Established in 2010, the festival consistently strives to program films that provide a robust forum for conversation and that enhance not only India’s rich storytelling tradition but also look to challenge people’s notions of this country which has emerged in recent years as the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
