
MELBOURNE, 16 May 2026: The 19th Victorian United Nations Day of Vesak Inc. celebration took place here with an array of events culminating at the Melbourne Town Hall. The events commemorated the birth of Buddha, enlightenment and passing. Big participation from Buddhists and many others was the hallmark of the celebrations.
It started off with ‘Sangha Dana’ – lunch offerings to Buddhist monks and nuns at the St. Peter’s Hall, Eastern Hill Anglican Church, East Melbourne, followed by friendship walk and procession with traditional drummers, flags, banners etc. from the Parliament Garden Reserve up to the Melbourne Town Hall.
Later, in the afternoon veneration of Buddha relics, chanting, meditation, and blessing with VIP messages at the Town Hall. The presence of people from all communities was large and encouraging. A painting of 21 Taras was also on display laced with meditations.
Meng Heang Tak MP joined the events and the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion supplied the relics of Buddha. Dhammakaya Meditation Centre of Melbourne provided the Statue of Buddha.
The Victorian United Nations community and the Buddhist Council of Victoria fostered the meaningful and inclusive event.
