Canada’s CBC News quoting Reuters Thomson, has reported that ‘Sikh activist’, Inderjeet Singh Gosal has been arrested by Canadian police on “firearms charges in Ontario, an advocacy group said on Monday, two years after his close associate was murdered and the crime strained Canada’s diplomatic ties with India.”
The report adds: ,”Police did not immediately respond to questions Monday. In the past, Canadian police have told Reuters they have issued a number of such warnings to Sikh activists in Canada.
The warnings follow the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh activist shot dead outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia in June 2023. He was a close associate of Gosal. ”
ANI adds from Toronto on 23 Sept., 2025: “Najjar’s killing sparked a major diplomatic crisis between India and Canada after then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged there were “credible allegations” of Indian involvement. India strongly rejected the charge, calling it politically motivated, and accused Ottawa of providing a safe haven to Khalistani terrorists.
The arrest comes as Canada’s new leadership under Prime Minister Mark Carney has sought to mend ties with India.”
Recently, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held detailed talks in New Delhi with his Canadian counterpart Nathalie Drouin. Both sides focused on restoring stability in bilateral relations between the two countries after months of strain.”
