
MELBOURNE, 16 May 2026: Former Labour Premier Daniel Andrews bronze statue is soon coming up outside the 1 Treasury Place. The statue will honouyr him for being in power in Victoria for 3,000 + days continuously. Daniel was Premier before Premier Jacinta Allan took office in September 23, 2023, She was sworn in as the 49th Premier of Victoria after Daniel Andrews resigned from the position.
Former Premier Jeff Kennett introduced a rule that any Victorian Premier who served more than 3,000 days in office gets a bronze statue outside 1 Treasury Place. The “magical number” of 3,000 was chosen by Kennett with no obvious reason, says monuments Australia.
Daniel will be the fifth Premier to have a statue. The earlier being Sir Albert Dunstan – 33rd Premier, served 1935-1945 across two terms, Second-longest serving Premier. Life-sized bronze by Peter Corlett, dedicated 1999. Sir Henry Bolte – 38th Premier, longest-serving at 17 years 77 days and Rupert HamerJohn Cain Jr. All four are post-WWII premiers who served 3,000 days in a single term.
The statues are on Treasury Place between the Old Treasury Building and Treasury Gardens.
The Guardian reports, “Work has begun on a statue to commemorate former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews’ more than 3,000 days in office. The state government confirmed Meridian Sculpture, the company that created the statues of the other four Victorian premiers who reached the milestone, was selected following a standard procurement process.
The total cost of the statue is $134,304 and work is already under way.
A Victorian government spokesperson said:
Daniel Andrews led Victoria through some of its toughest moments and never stopped fighting for working people. Under a policy introduced by the Kennett government, Victorian premiers who serve more than 3,000 days in office are recognised with a statue along Treasury Place in honour of their service to the state.
The government said installation details would be finalised “closer to completion”.
