MELBOURNE, 11 March 2024: Nepal’s Pashupatinath Temple will have a look like here soon, as the Astha Nepali Hindu Society of Victoria is all set to make it a reality. The fast growing Nepalese Hindu community in Melbourne is, no doubt, excited at the plan, as was evident during the short faith program and information sharing.

Guests Casandra Fernando MP, Manoj Kumar, ALP, Nirmal Namdhari, community activist, Neeraj Nanda, SAT Editor were honoured by Nepalese leaders. Apart from the ‘Puja’ and ‘Aarti’, the gathering was addressed by Nepalese leaders including Raju Adhakri, Yakindra Timilsena CG Nepal, and Casandra Fernando MP.

In his address Raju Adhakari detailed the program of the planned Pashupatinath Temple and  urged the community to support the project, presenting a document to Casandra in this regard. Casandra in her speech expressed joy at the planned temple and talked about her own multicultural origin from Sri Lanka.

Later she joined the devotees enjoying ‘Bhajans’ followed by ‘Prasad’ distribution.

According to the Victorian Government, “Before 2000, there were only a small number of Nepalese people in Victoria. Between 2011 and 2021, the size of the Nepalese community doubled from 9,389 to 20,154 people in Victoria.

Much of the Nepalese community are recent arrivals, with over half of the population arriving in Victoria between 2016 and 2021.”
