MELBOURNE, 20 May 2023: Buddha’s birthday this year was celebrated across the world. Australia was no exception and Melbourne had many functions to mark the occasion. A massively attended event at the Quang Minh Buddhist Temple, Braybrook, was a fitting celebration to mark Buddha’s 2567th birth anniversary. This big Vietnamese style temple’s shrine with big golden statues of Buddha and other prayer objects, was a perfect venue for Indian Buddhist Community Australia’s Buddha birthday event. The temple ambience laced with so many families in attendance, reflected the day’s reverence. A multicultural event with a message of peace and harmony.
Under the towering shadow of the golden Buddha, devotees and guests participated in the Buddha Puja, performed by the monks. The monks were given gifts, VIPs honoured, and performances took place. The VIPs present included Ms. Sarah Connolly MP Member for Laverton, Mr. Mathew Hilkari MP Member for Point Cook, Dr. Tien Kieu former MP Parliament of Victoria, Ms. Sarah Carter, Mayor of Maribyrnong City Council, Mr. Girish Singh Kavia, Consulate General of India, Melbourne, Mr. Ian Green, Chairman, Great Stupa of Universal Compassion, Bendigo and Mr. Shivkumar, Consulate General of India Melbourne. The guests gave best wishes for Buddha’s birthday and its relevance in multicultural Victoria and Australia.
The function was well organised with the hard work and support of the Indian Buddhist Community Australia office bearers and volunteers.
