MELBOURNE, 1 November 2026 — Diwali celebrations in Melbourne continue to grow, with the Uttar Pradesh Association of Australia’s Diwali Celebrations 2026 at Cathies Lane Receptions drawing a large crowd.

The day-long event began with puja and devotional songs, followed by stage performances including songs, dances and a skit on the impact of new technology in rural India. The performance drew strong participation and highlighted the theme well.

A highlight was an Indonesian dance troupe performing Ramayana characters in Lanka Dahan, which was well received by the audience. Other dance groups also performed in traditional colourful attire on the floor in front of the stage.

The main hall was decorated with candles, flowers and lights. Guests enjoyed a three-course Indian meal, DJ music, photo sessions and a raffle draw. Certificates were presented to participants.

Dignitaries included Indian Consulate Head of Chancery & Consul Tej Krishan, Labor MP Matt Fregon, and UPAA office bearers including Dr Santosh Yadav. Speeches reflected on the significance of Diwali as a festival of light, unity and community. A three-course meal added to the taste-buds.
