Indian Consulate celebrates ‘World Hindi Day’

MELBOURNE, 10 January 2023: The Indian Consulate here today celebrated the ‘World Hindi Day’, with a large number of enthusiastic Hindi lovers and community members attending at the Consulate hall. Organised by the Consulate in association with the Sathiya Sandhya, Hindi Niketan and Hindi Siksha Sangh, speakers emphasised the importance of Hindi as a uniting language. The large gathering heard speaker after speaker describing how Hindi is now used in many countries.

Addressing the gathering Dr. Sushil Kumar, Consul General said, with Hindi we are able to connect with our communities in different countries. And, it is a proud moment for us as Hindi has made a special place for itself in Melbourne.

The relations between India and Victoria are vibrant and the role of the Indian Diaspora has been significant in it, he said.  He added, We should thrive to encourage the learning and increase the opportunities for teaching of Hindi.

He then read out Indian PM Narendra Modi’s message in Hindi on the occasion, which said, every Indian is proud of the cultural and linguistic diversity of the country, and at the international level Hindi’s role in projecting the Indian identity and weaving Indians as one is immense.

He hoped, World Hindi Day celebrations will encourage Indians and especially the youth, to use Hindi in their daily life. And, the acts of Hindi lovers to project the language indicates a good future for the language, he said.

The event saw Saraswati Vandana, skits by children, Hindi poetry recital and inspirational speeches by prominent speakers.

It was a joyous evening at the Consulate and lots of networking. No doubt, it was Hindi’s day at the Indian Consulate.
