IndianCare AGM 2023: Pledge to keep serving the community

MELBOURNE, 9 July, 2023: IndianCare, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to address the welfare and wellbeing needs of people of Indian and other South Asian origin living in Victoria, is proud to be serving the community across Victoria.

It has once again pledged to keep working for the betterment of people in need, and the vulnerable facing hardship and loneliness. On its 10th anniversary IndianCare held its 2023 AGM, at The Dock, Docklands with all the commitment and fervour.

The stakeholders, funding bodies, and the team were there in strength to hear and support the last financial year’s highlights and set the pace again to support the community.

The program kicked off with the national anthems of Australia and India and  a warm welcome and introduction by Moina Anand. The minutes of the previous AGM were read out and passed.

This was followed by the President’s, Treasurer’s and Manager’s reports. Then the new board members namely Jaya Manchikanti, President, Manjit Singh, Vice-President, Ramachandra Manchikanti, Treasurer, Moina Choudhary, Secretary, Anand Shome, Board Member, Durga Warrior, Board Member, Saleha Singh, Board Member and Sandeep Varma, Board Mamber were announced and accepted.

The President’s report details all the projects including Project Ujala, which focused on delivering impact through education to prevent family violence in the Indian community and provision of referrala to victim survivors.

Under this project 250 people were benefitted. Earlier, IndianCare project for providing emergency relief to South Asians affected by Covid-19 during the pandemic worked for three months and benefitted about 150 people. The project Rapid Response, aimed to educate disadvantaged communities during Covid-19 helped about 250 people. In fact, there are other projects which were successful.

The song by Monia and gazals by Shubi Pandey were big hits.

The gathering was later addressed by Manjit Singh, Shiv Kumar, Indian Consulate, Sury Soni, FIAV President, Dr. Md. Mohideen, VMC among others. Important dignitaries later were also honoured. This was followed by an informative research presentation on ‘Investigating the link between community development and sustainable development in Australia by Jaya Manchikanti, PhD candidate, Victoria University, which explained community development, sustainable development and the link between them, research methodology and the  findings. The findings indicated we are living beyond our means, climate change is a real threat and without community development there cannot be sustainable development.
