India’s R-Day 2024 observed in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, 26 January 2024: India’s 74th Republic Day was celebrated with fervour and gaiety here. Early, at the Indian Consulate, the tricolour was unfurled by the Consul General, Dr. Sushil Kumar surrounded by a massive crowd of Indians who had come from suburbs across Melbourne. The weather was good and an cheerful festive atmosphere prevailed as some people danced and sang songs.

Later, Dr. Sushil Kumar addressed the gathering inside the decorated Consulate hall and read out the R-Day message of the Indian President. This was followed by a few sons and some people danced with dhol music. It was a perfect day for networking , group photographs and snacking.

Another function was held at the Australian-Indian Community Centre (AICCT) organised by Vasan Srinivasan and Paramjit Jaswal. Along with the tricolour and Australian flags unfurling by Dr. Sushil Kumar and  Knox Deputy Mayor, Cr Sorina Grasso. Later both of them addressed the gathering congratulating the community for Republic Day and Australia Day.
