World Environment Day cleanup at Warrawee Park

MELBOURNE, 4 June 2023: What else could be a better way to observe the World Environment Day 2023, being at the Warrawee Park, Oakleigh cleaning the place of recyclable litter. The group with yellow sacks and wearing gloves moved around the Park today picking up plastic bottles, takeaway containers, chips envelops, plastic bags, tissue papers, coffee containers, broken plastic stuff and what not. At the onset the massively big park looked beautifully green amid the shining sun.

As volunteers moved around the litter started emerging and sacks got filled up. In fact, it’s also good education as you learn what all people consume and discard the throwaway containers. This despite garbage bins all around. Is it deliberate or just casual. Difficult to say but corners and bushes in the park are the places where we found this stuff.

If there is a road nearby the chances of plastic bottles and takeaway containers around is much more.  Soon the garbage collection bags got filled and many kilos collected.

There were smiles about doing a successful job.

As the day passed more and more volunteers arrived and were in the field doing the job that helped make some difference on the World Environment Day.

The Park cleanup event was organised by the Global Council For Environment and Health Inc,. (GlobalCEH) in association with The Dawoodi Bohras Melbourne (TDBM) and the Friends of The Children Foundation, Australia (TCFA).

There were then speakers who gave their views on the ‘Implications of Air Pollution on Human Health’ that included Dr. Raj Khillian,  Dr. Raju Adhikari , Dr. Subash Sharma and Dr. Santosh Yadav. Mr. Manoj Kumar, GlobalCEH,  Mr. Shashi Kochhar, TCFA and Mr. Mustafa Poonawala, TDBM were representing the organisers and also spoke on the occasion.

This was followed by a lively Q- A session and networking. The event was visited by the Monash Mayor and Hon. Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events & Minister for Creative Industries, who was passing by and came.
