Cinetown.org to promote Punjabi talent in Australia

MELBOURNE, 6 May 2023: Dave Sidhu – director/producer today forcefully called upon hidden cultural talent in the community to come out and make Australia more vibrant by promoting themselves. He wants people to come to cinetown.org and express their hidden talents.

The program ‘Punjabi Cinema in Australia’ welcomed guests Jarnail Singh, actor/producer, Karamjit Anmol, actor/singer/comedian/producer and Nisha Bano actor/singer from the Punjabi and other cinema in India and globally.

Jarnail Singh (Chaal Mare Putt, Raab Da Radio2, Guddiyan Patole…) spoke about how talent can be dished out.

Talking about Australia, he said, as compared to the UK, where the first generation Punjabis are well settled, and their next generation is showing talent all around, in Australia, the second generation is yet to get settled.

That’s why the lack of talent emerging. He disclosed there were massive investments in Punjabi cinema from Australia but cultural talent was missing. Hence the lack of recognition of Punjabi talent, he said.

Nisha Bano, who acts in Director Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming ‘Chamkila’, talked about how she was encouraged by her mother to take to acting. Karamjit Anmol (Laavaan Phere and Carry on Jatta 2…) came out with examples of his singing talent, on demands from the audience.

Punjabis from across Melbourne were present at the function held at ‘The Grand Saffron’ Indian Restaurant, South Moorang.

Cinetown.org has urged anyone in the community with talent to use the many opportunities emerging in Australia including from Screen Australia’s many funding offers  for children’s productions and NMF Catalyst Grants on offer.
