In the vibrant tapestry of Indian music, a new thread is being woven, one that merges the rich textures of rap and pop to tell a story of love, dreams, and the mystique of the unseen. Jalpari, a song released on February 20th, is the offering from two of India’s music industry’s promising talents: Mumbai’s Chinmay Pandit and Dubai’s Siddhesh Shinde. This romantic number compares a beloved to a mermaid, diving deep into the ocean of love with lyrical prowess and melodious harmony.

A fusion of talents

Chinmay Pandit, a name that resonates with the high-end music scenes of Mumbai, brings to the table his expertise in melding classical Indian music with contemporary notes. From playing gigs in the most sought-after venues of the city to collaborating with Bollywood bigwigs, Pandit’s journey has been one of constant exploration and passion. On the other hand, Siddhesh Shinde, primarily known for his Marathi rap that speaks to the heart of the Marathi diaspora in Dubai and the locals back in Mumbai, steps into the realm of Hindi rap with Jalpari. This marks a significant pivot in his career, showcasing his versatility and willingness to experiment with new genres and languages.

Making of Jalpari

The genesis of Jalpari traces back to a simple phone call between Siddhesh and Chinmay, where the former shared his vision for a song that encapsulated the essence of newfound love. “Khwabon ko bharke inn panno pe, dil ke iss syahi se bhar rahi lifafo ko,” Siddhesh recites, the lyrics reflecting a deep-seated admiration and affection for the muse behind the song. Within the first session, Chinmay laid down a base melody that would become the foundation of Jalpari, a melody so captivating that it endured through the years of the song’s development.

Journey through time

What started as a Valentine’s Day gift idea in 2022, Jalpari became a project of love and dedication for Siddhesh and Chinmay. Over the years, the song saw several iterations, with each artist bringing his unique flavour to the table, enriching the composition further. Siddhesh’s journey from battle rap to making full-fledged music found its pinnacle in Jalpari, while Chinmay’s exploration of different musical genres breathed life into the song’s versatile sound.

Beyond Jalpari

As we look beyond the release of Jalpari, it’s clear that both Chinmay and Siddhesh are artists not confined by the boundaries of language or genre. Chinmay’s debut pop single “Talaash” and Siddhesh’s tracks “Samjha Bablu” and his remix of “gutter rich” are testaments to their evolving musical narratives. Jalpari is not just a song; it’s a declaration of their artistry and a gift to the world of music, promising to leave listeners mesmerised and moved.
