“Na Hanyate” – न हन्यते (It Does Not Die) – is a Khelaiya Productions musical for 2022, to be performed in English.
The musical is based on the novel of the same name written by Maitreyi Devi, an Indian poetess and a novelist who was the protegée of the great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. In 1976, the writer received India’s top literary award, the Sahitya Akademi Award, for her novel.
This is a story of two youngsters falling in love from a different cultural backgrounds in 1930. The narrative is beautifully woven with the rich heritage and folk/regional music of West Bengal. Set in old Calcutta in the Colonial era, the musical is not to be missed.
Na Hanyate Shlok Translation:
na jāyate mriyate vā kadāchin
nāyaṁ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥ
ajo nityaḥ śhāśhvato ’yaṁ purāṇo
na hanyate hanyamāne śharīre
The soul is neither born nor does it ever die; nor having once existed, does it ever cease to be. The soul is without birth, eternal, immortal and ageless. It is not destroyed when the body is destroyed.
Khelaiya Productions is a not-for-Profit Organisation founded by Harsiddhi Mody. The organisation is run by volunteers who are passionate about Indian literature, drama & music.
As per Khelaiya Productions’ vision, through performances, it not only presents music, literature and culture of the different regions of India, but also try to imbibe it with a different narrative.
Harsiddhi Mody, has directed three musicals, ‘Mharo Pranam’, ‘Umrao Jaan Ada’ and ‘Na Hanyate’ in Hindi which were all executed brilliantly by local artists and well received by the Melbourne audience.

“Now, we are embarking on a new journey, presenting, the English version of Na Hanyate, an endeavor to share and bring this love to a wider Melbourne audience, an attempt to reach out to our non-Hindi speaking community,” says Harsiddhi Mody.
