MELBOURNE, 13 May 2023: Multicultural Victoria and Australia could be seen in action as the Alumni of the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh and the Jamia Milla, New Delhi, celebrated Eid with gaiety and fervour. The former students of these primer universities , now living and working here assembled for the second consecutive year at the Azooba – Bar – B – Q Lounge, Tullamarine,  celebrating their annual festival. The spacious Azooba, literally meaning ‘miracle’ or ‘a wonderful thing’ in Urdu, was crowded with professionals and their families having a fun evening with lot’s of meetings, talking, gossips and remembering the grand  old days of their university days.

South Asia Times (SAT) came across many doctors and those working in the technology sector. They were no different from other South Asians across Melbourne, their mix with people of other faiths was evident as homeland issues and Cricket dominated the networking.

No doubt, cricket was one subject coming up again and again, with the last incredible India-Pakistan cricket match at the MCG still fresh in memories. There was nothing to beat that match, said someone. Who won or lost did not seem to matter but that match was, most felt, was a slice of life never to be forgotten.

Addressing the gathering Dr, Ayubi (President, AMU Alumni Association) said the evening was for cohesiveness, to meet friends on the occasion of Eid.

And, an opportunity to make new friends and talking to each other. Syed Asif Hasan, President, Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association, Victoria, wished happy Eid to those gathered.

Cultural and faith presentations were also made by children and artists. The kids were presented with ‘Eidi’ envelopes by the seniors present.

The days’s menu included Seekh Kabab, Fried Fish, Papdi, Chicken Kadhai, Lohari Choley, Palak Paneer, Chicken Biryani, Nan, Raita, salad and fruit trifle. The Eid celebration was  nostalgic, giving a message of love and friendship.
