Melbourne: This month, Wyndham City celebrates the first anniversary of its newest Visitor Information
Centre, a successful addition to the original Werribee Visitor Information Centre, promoting
the region’s thriving tourism industry to locals, national and international visitors.
The new centre located at the entrance of Werribee Open Range Zoo in the Werribee Park
Tourism Precinct has proven to be a great success, with almost a 100% increase in
customers. This has resulted in visitors staying longer, visiting more attractions and
shopping and dining locally.
Councillor Intaj Khan, who is the Portfolio Holder for Economic Development said the large
majority of visitors to the Werribee Park Tourism Precinct are day trip visitors from
Melbourne who arrive via the freeway and do not go into Werribee CBD.
“We were missing the opportunity to make personal contact with these visitors, influence
their visit to stay longer and return to the area,” Cr Khan said.
“Now, the new centre has given us the opportunity to access and influence the one million
visitors who come to the precinct each year. Survey results show that 92% of visitors to the
centre have been influenced to stay longer, do more on their visit, return to the region or
recommend the region to friends and family.”
“The Visitor Information Centre is not just for tourists it is also a great resource of
information and inspiration for residents.”
“I would encourage residents who are looking for things to do over the summer break to
discover your own backyard and invite family and friends to also experience the wonderful
attractions we have here.”
“Our skilled staff and volunteers have a vast and varied knowledge of the area and can also
help you find some of those hidden gems.”
“There is so much to explore, from a bike ride along the Werribee River to discovering
marine life at Point Cook Coastal Park.”
“Entry for children is free to the Werribee Open Range Zoo during the school holidays
making it a perfect time to take the family on an affordable safari adventure.”
“If history is more your interest you might enjoy stepping back in time at the Werribee
Mansion or discovering aviation history at the RAAF Museum.”
Visitor Information Centres are located at;
Werribee Park Tourism Precinct, K Road, Werribee and Wyndham Cultural Centre, 177
Watton Street, Werribee
Both centres are open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm (closed Good Friday and
Christmas Day).
